Fort Benton was the last steamboat stop on the Missouri River. Rivermen, miners, soldiers, frontiersmen, and gamblers patronized its waterfront businesses… including Madame Dumont’s. Fort Benton, Montana was the most upstream navigable port on the Mississippi River System, and is considered "the world’s innermost port".
