Kit Carson and the Fremont Expedition at Bent’s Fort
On July 2nd, 1844 Kit Carson and Joe Walker led John C. Fremont’s second expedition into Bent’s Fort in Colorado. They had endured severe hardships but had managed to explore much of the West, including the Mexican territory of California. The published account of this expedition captivated America. Carson became a folk hero, Fremont became a national political figure and America became enthralled with dreams of Manifest Destiny.
