Spirit Island at Maligne Lake by Phillip Philbeck
Phillip Phibeck creates breathtaking landscapes, and this image is one of his best. Spirit Island, in Lake Maligne, is part of Jasper National Park in the Canadian Rockies. The island offers views of three glaciers within the park. Maligne Lake is one of the most photographed areas in the world. Feeding into the Maligne River, the lake takes its name from the French word, maligne, meaning wicked. A French priest, in the 1800s, used the word to describe the turbulent river. Early French traders also used the name because of its treacherous confluence with the Athabasca River. This print is from an edition size of only 250 in this series.
