During the first two days of November, the entire country of Mexico celebrates All Saints Day or Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Like many Catholic holidays in the New World, it was added on to existing festivities to meld the new Catholicism with the old pagan beliefs. Not only is life celebrated, but also the remembrance of the departed. Some people prepare alters at home, while others visit cemeteries or churches to share festivities with the spirits of their loved ones. The bright orange cempasuchil flower, similar to the marigold, figures prominently during the celebration. This print is from an edition size of only 195 in this series.
